name? Then try Vince's Automated Band Name Creator
Some of Vince's favorite music can be heard on
SomaFM,
easily the best streaming music site on the Web.
SomaFM does not play commercials like most Internet radio
stations, so if you like them, please
support them.
Being the music-lover he is, Vince wants to let the
visitors know about a few of his favorite bands...
Auto!Automatic!! - Local (Tampa Bay, FL)
instrumental rock group that jams with quick bass riffs, high energy
drums and finger tapping lead guitar. No annoying vocals to distract
you from the music. They recently released a professionally recorded
and edited full-length album, now available on iTunes. Just search
the iTunes store for Auto Automatic. Check it!
Bonnie Prince Billy,
aka Will Oldham -
"Alternative country"
singer/songwriter.
Drag City
Records maintains a good site about Will and his aliases. He
also recorded with his brothers as Palace Brothers. The
Palace
Records website is another good resource for info and buying his
music.
Death From Above 1979 -
A Toronto, Canada based rock duo.
When you listen to their Your A Woman, I'm A Machine album,
you'll find yourself moving your head to their mad riffs and beats
while also scratching your head in disbelief when you think, they
are jamming out on just a set of drums, a bass guitar and some moog
effects. I challenge you to keep the speedometer at a safe level while
listening to this in your car.
Further Seems Forever -
Pompano Beach Florida emo band.
They had a break up in 2005 because of problems with their promoters
but are hopefully going to do a farewell tour.
Grandaddy -
Indi rock band from rural Northern California.
If you're a fan of Radiohead and the like, you have to check these
guys out. Unfortunately, every good thing must come to an end -
these guys have decided to disband. The recent album, Just Like
the Fambly Cat [sic] is their last album.
Green Day -
Punk-pop revivalists that grew from the Northern California
underground scene back in the early 90's. They put on an incredible
show and I make sure to catch them whenever they have a show in
Tampa.
Iron & Wine -
Florida indi singer/songwriter Samuel Beam delivers calming songs
with a folkie sound.
The Killers -
British-influenced synth-pop/rock group from Las
Vegas.
M83 -
Electronica group who takes
their name from the spiral galaxy Messier 83.
m31570 -
Oklahoma City
electronic artist with quite a sense of humor.
Muse -
British rock band. Their music undulates between
near-classical piano solos to all out head banging rock. Their
concert at the House of Blue, Orlando, was one of the best shows
I've ever seen.
The Magnetic Fields / Stephin Merrit -
The critically acclaimed
triple album 69 Love Songs is one of those rare compositions
that should be in everyone's collection. It is one of the most
varietal recordings ever.
Ratatat -
NY instrumental guitar/keyboard duo makes great use
of hip-hop beats and effects pedals. They released a second album in 2006
and it is awesome.
Radiohead -
If I have to tell you who these guys are, you
probably shouldn't be bothering to read this page. Thom York's
Eraser album is incredible too.
Saxon Shore
- Instrumental rock band with members
from Philly and Brooklyn. Just give them a listen via the sample
tracks on Amazon (click their name to visit). If you like
instrumental rock
music at all I doubt you'll be disappointed.
Sparklehorse -
Indi rock singer/songwriter Mark Linkous who now
records in his studio in the North Carolina mountains. His new
album, released in 2006, does not compare well to his older stuff,
but it's still better than the average pop artist garbage.
Sufjan Stevens -
Indi singer/songwriter from Michigan writes some of
the most amazing lyrics we've heard, plus he plays 10 or so
instruments.
We're always interested in hearing new,
good music so please let us know if you want
to
suggest any bands we should check out.
Also please let us know
